Some of the latest Caribbean & Caribbean inspired movies.

Here are a few of the latest Caribbean and Caribbean inspired movies that have been getting quite a bit of press this summer.

THE LONG SONG

The Long Song is an adaption of Andrea Levy’s (born in London to Jamaican parents) novel by the same name. This BBC produced mini series follows an enslaved July and her mistress Caroline living on a Jamaican sugar plantation in 1838 under British rule.


THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR

The Sun Is Also A Star is another film adapted from a novel. The novel was released in November 2016 and is the second book by New York Times Best Selling author Jamaican-American Nicola Yoon. This film is about an young undocumented Jamaican woman, who falls in love as her family is in danger of being forced to move back to Jamaica.


GUAVA ISLAND

The screenplay for the musical film Guava Island was by Stephen Glover from a story by Donald Glover. Bajan singer, actress and beauty mogul Rihanna co-starts in the this film about a musician who plans a festival to bring joy to his island.


CUBA

CUBA shows the world the beauty of Cuba. Filmed exclusively for IMAX® and giant screen formats. CUBA explains the love affair the world has with Cuba with interviews from Cuban historians, scientists and artists. CUBA is produced by Golden Gate 3D, in association with BBC Earth, Giant Screen Films and the Giant Dome Theater Consortium. It is set for release in 2019.
